The University at Buffalo offers a free service that delivers text messages and email messages to UB students, faculty, and staff during emergencies, incidents that may affect personal safety and when adverse weather conditions affect normal campus operations.
This system is designed to send messages to recipients’ cell phones, smartphones and UB email addresses.
To register for this service, you must enter your buffalo.edu email account. You can also supply your cellphone number to receive texts. You can later log in again to add non-UB email addresses or additional cellphone numbers. (To receive UB Alerts at a non-UB email address, the recipient must respond to a confirmation email.) Some smartphone, prepay or “minutes” cell phone plans may not work with the emergency notification system. Consult the FAQ to see if you are affected.
In addition to UB Alert text messaging, emergency messages will be provided to faculty, staff and students using official campus communication channels including this website (emergency.buffalo.edu), the campus-wide UB Alert listserv, UB's home page, the MyUB portal, UB Now, 716-645-News, the UB Alert X feed (formerly known as Twitter) and UB Facebook pages. Local television and radio stations may also be contacted by the university to communicate during emergencies or weather-related events.
There is no charge for this service, but your own message and data rates may apply. Text messages are sent on an as-needed basis. This service is provided per Rave's Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Opt out of SMS messages by texting STOP to one of these shortcodes (22911, 67283, 77295, 78015, 226787) or by changing your account settings on the Rave website. For additional help contact UBitHelp@buffalo.edu.
